A picture is worth a thousand words.... and these two pictures are worth 120 billion web pages:
Note: Ironically, as of the posting of these images, Google was able to present 372,000 relevant results for the unquoted search terms a search engine better than google, essentially proving that while many people write about creating a better search, nobody seems to succeed.

Hello there
Anybody recall how google performed on its 1st day out of the
gates....
If I recall it was underwhelming too
Doesn't that mean that cuil's results are more accurate than google's ?
Wow... nice one Michael. I think we've stumbled onto a true paradox!

Yeah, but Google didn't proclaim that their search engine was the next coming of Christ the way Cuil does on their About page...
"Welcome to Cuil—the world’s biggest search engine. The Internet has grown. We think it’s time search did too.
The Internet has grown exponentially in the last fifteen years but search engines have not kept up—until now. Cuil searches more pages on the Web than anyone else—three times as many as Google and ten times as many as Microsoft."
Cuil is so bad that a entering a search for "cuil" or "cuil.com" won't even find itself!
fail

It doesent even show its own name when searched! Talk about indexing haha
A common misconception about search engines, not knowing how indexing works. Let's give them time and see before we spew our ignorance. Just because we know and use google a lot doesn't mean it should be the best out there. Just a question for all my ignorant fellows, when did you first use google and how long did it take for it to be at this stage, almost 10 years in business. leo hanes said it, let's remember google's 1st day in business.
Hello all,
You can't expect everything perfect on very first time, do you know how current major search engine was on their initial stage :)
Think wider dudes ;)

I think the key to the harsh welcome that Cuil has received is the way it came out of the gate full of cocky attitude. One article even applauded it for not assigning itself the "beta" designation.
You can say what you want about Google's habit of keeping things in "perpetual beta", but at least they are honest with themselves and the users when things are a work in progress. They also don't put out big, blustery press releases about the way they are going to conquer the world with a new offering. Actually, on the contrary, they rarely even announce new features and advances. They just quietly release them and let people discover them.
People like to root for the little guy, but not the little guy with the big mouth.
darn these people criticizing cuil
cuil is just a baby and google is like a fully grown adult and what do u expect
but still i wouldnt recommend cuil for normal searches but for reasearch- its great
wow nice content
